# 2 Walking Tour: Historic Varina: Broad Street

Tour participants will enjoy visiting Varina from one end of Broad Steet to the other, through the eyes of those who grew up in Varina. Learn about the two bank locations, the Varina hotel, the cotton gin, the depot and rails, with sidelights on stores at different time periods.

# 3 Walking Tour: Historic Academy Street
Featuring schools, parsonages, homes and residents.

Can you give the reason for “Academy Street’s “ name? You will learn this and much more of history of schools, the first library, the Teacherage, the Council Gym and where the Methodist and Baptist preachers lived?

# 4 Walking Tour: Historic Ennis Street

Learn Ennis Street’s connections to the “Varina” distinction of our town. How did Faucette Street get its name? Explore the origins of Woman’s Club and The Presbyterian Church. Learn the home of the first high school principal and the famed Ballentine family who lived there all their lives. Every home you will pass will explain more “family” names of our town.

# 5 Walking Tour: Historic District of Fuquay

Names from early Fuquay Avenue and Spring Street will be attached to the houses you view along these streets. Hear about Dr. Edwards and Dr. Cheek, J. E. Howard’s family, the Proctor-Barbour Company, and the Walter Aikens Family. Every home you pass will give you more names and history of Fuquay Springs.

# 6 Riding Tour: Trolley ride all around Fuquay-Varina
“Where everything used to be and/or still is.”

Where was Fuquay Springs? Where was Varina? You will be thoroughly aware after this tour. Learn the history of two high schools, businesses, parks, and streets.
